This is his third solo album released from CBS Sony's Master Sound series in 1978. Aside from his talent as a composer/keyboardist, Yuji Ohno's brilliance lies in his sense of arrangement. A6, which perfectly blends Sonia Rosa's coquettish vocals with a breezy Brazilian flavor, is a perfect example. A6 is reminiscent of "Love Scall", the ending theme of "Lupin the Third", which Sandii was the vocalist for, although the tune is different. B1, with its wonderful contrast between the gentle laid-back feeling and the melancholy melody, also stands out with Yuji Ohno's unique sense of arrangement.

A1: Prologue - Crystal Love -
A5: Never More
B1: Melting Spot

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0511/8073/2616/products/149119449_61f1491c-9329-4979-999c-f08a51f67336.jpg?v=1609921500
jun-fukamachi-the-sea-of-dirac
Jun Fukamachi "The Sea of Dirac"

深町純
The Sea of Dirac
Kitty Records (Japan) 1977
MKF 1020 (LP) Promotional copy, w/insert.
sleeve : EX-(wear on some corners ans edges, crease on one corner.)
media : EX+/EX+(slightly noises a bit.)

This album was released in 1977 by composer/pianist Jun Fukamachi, who began his career as a professional musician while still a student at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, and played an important role in the early days of crossover fusion in Japan. The album was recorded in Los Angeles with Steve Gadd, Anthony Jackson, Tonny Levin, Eric Gale, Steve Khan and other great players in jazz-rock world. The album was produced and arranged by Chikara Ueda of Power Station, who has left behind many domestic jazz-funk classics, and features acoustic piano and synthesizer. Other participants include Yasuaki Shimizu, Toshiyuki Honda, Hiroki Miyano, and Louis Johnson.　The A-side features arrangements of Chopin and Andre Popp's songs, including the jazz-funk style A1 and the reggae-jazz style A2. The B-side features Gershwin's arrangement and an original composition by Chikara Ueda. The Saxophonettes is basically a project by Yasuaki Shimizu himself, although there are several saxophonists in the group now. This album, the first under this name, has a personal sound makeup with multiple recordings of synthesizers and strings, mainly saxophone. It covers American standard numbers, but the backing track is completely electronic. This is an original work that perfectly combines a retro feel with cutting-edge electronic sounds. One of the interesting things about minyo is its unique verses and rhythms that show the characteristics of each region.

A2: 南部牛追唄
B1: 木曽節 (長野)

鎌田英一 / 宮川康一
博多かっちり / 祝目出度
Crown Records (Japan) 1969
CW-8049 (7”) w/company paper sleeve
sleeve : VG+(lyric sheet: PCOH,TEOC,WC,crease,color-fade, label of sise B: SOC)
media : VG+/VG+(surface noise)

This 7-inch single was released in 1969 and contains two “MInyo” folk songs from Fukuoka Prefecture. Although Better Days' non-jazz works such as Mkwaju Ensemble, Yasuaki Shimizu, Mariah, and Colored Music have attracted worldwide attention, this album is different from them in that it is a mainstream classic rock album that seems to have been influenced by Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, and Led Zeppelin. Ichikawa is the jazz pianist who was active in the groups of George Otsuka and George Kawaguchi in the 70s, and in Trinity, which he formed with Masahiko Togashi and Isao Suzuki in 1980. In this album, he used a lot of synthesizers such as Arp Odyssery, Oberheim, Roland Jupiter-4 and vocoder. The members of the band are all rock musicians, including Koichi Hirai who is the guitarist of Panta & Hal. The result is a blend of crossover fusion and symphonic rock that sounds like a session between Far East Family Band and Jan Hammer. This is a rare style among the Better Days' works. I highly recommend A2, with its bluesy electric guitar solo and trippy analog synthesizer sound, and B2, with its contrast between the thick, resonant drone of the analog synthesizer and the electric guitar, layered with a vocoder chorus.

A2: Smoke Zone
B2: Journey to the End of Time

大瀧詠一, 山下達郎, 伊藤銀次
Niagara Triangle Vol.1
Niagara Records (Japan) 1976
LQ-7001-E/ (LP) w/insert(faded, light dirts)
sleeve : VG+(SPSE/TOC: crack on edge ond tape, 2cm peeled off on the lower left corner, corner wear, color-faded, slightly dirts.)
media : EX-/EX-(light noises due to small scratches, but still good.)

This is the first session album released in 1976 by the Niagara Family, which consisted of Eiichi Otaki, after the breakup of Happiend, Tatsuro Yamashita and Ginji Ito. The song was cut from the famous adult-oriented pop album "Bolero", which is featured in the “Walearic Disc Guide". The A-side, composed by Tetsuya Tsujihata and arranged by Eiji Mori, is a sexy adult pop song with a mysterious atmosphere that combines ska and reggae rhythms with tango. The B-side, with lyrics by Hako Yamazaki and music and arrangement by Masamichi Amano, is an adult song with an arrangement influenced by Ravel's "Bolero" and shadowy, seductive vocals. The pitch up in the second half is unusual, but interesting. Both songs are mature and adult. Produced by her husband Yasunori Soryo. No player names are listed, but it is assumed that the album was backed by skilled session musicians of the time. In terms of sound, this album has American soul, Latin/Caribbean taste, as represented by Motown, which Haruomi Hosono and Tin Pan Alley brought to the Japanese pop scene. The album features compositions by Yumi Matsutoya, Masataka Matsutoya, Yoshitaka Minami, and Satoshi Kishida, and all the songs were arranged by Kazumi Seo. The songs are arranged with a soft touch that reflects Fuji's thin and ennui vocals. This is the album released in 1981 by Yukari Ito, a Japanese female singer who has been active in the major music scene since the late 1950s and has recorded some great Japanese grooves in the late 1970s and 1980s. Tracks were composed by Katsuo Ohno, Hiroshi Yasukawa, Daisuke Inoue, Kohshoh Inomata, and Nobuo Kurata. The musicians include Tadaomi Anai, Yuichi Tokashiki, Akira Okazawa, Jake H. Conception, and many other session musicians who support the Japanese music scene. The album features a variety of adult pop songs, including A1, a pleasantly laid-back beat composed by Katsuo Ohno; A2, an adult-oriented tune that elegantly incorporates bossa nova, also composed by Katsuo Ohno; and A3, a melancholy tune with the sound of bandoneon.

A1: Room No. 1929
A2: 都会のリズム

坂本龍一
Front Line / Happy End
Alfa Records (Japan) 1981
ALR-730 (7”) 1st. pressing, Promotional copy, w/original paper sleeve
sleeve : EX+
media : EX+/EX+(some slightly noises.)

Ryuichi Sakamoto released this 7-inch single in 1981. Ryuichi Sakamoto served as supervisor. In addition to the YMO team of Haruomi Hosono, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Yukihiro Takahashi, Akiko Yano, and Hideki Matsutake, Yasuaki Shimizu and Kazuhiko Kato also participated. Haruomi Hosono's sixth solo album, released in 1982. It was produced in 1981, when Yellow Magic Orchestra had virtually disbanded after releasing "Technodelic" and "BGM", and was released as the first album for Yen Records, the label Hosono founded. The album is a masterpiece, featuring synthesizers/sequencers such as the Linn Drum, Prophet-5, MC-4, etc., as well as the E-mu Emulator, an early sampler, and a large amount of ethnic percussion and voice sampling. The album is unique in that it alternates between Haruomi Hosono's unique pop style and highly experimental style, such as A3/B2/B5, which have an experimental approach, and A4, which is more edgy electronic music than "Technodelic". As you can clearly hear in B2, the sound is unusually grainy and amazing. This 1985 album features music produced by Ryuichi Sakamoto for the dance performances of American avant-garde dancer Molissa Fenley. Artists such as Yas-Kaz (perc) and Arto Lindsey (e-g), whose names alone raise expectations to the maximum, participated. I'm not sure how it's perceived by the general public, but personally, it's one of my all-time favorite Ryuichi Sakamoto works that I've listened to for many years. It's scattered with modern music ideas and minimalism, inspired by John Cage, who practiced music of chance by breaking down phrases and randomly reconstructing them. Due to the era of the mid-1980s, many works produced during the same period feature flashy digital synthesizer sounds, but this work doesn't feel dated at all when mixed with current dance music. A masterpiece among masterpieces, with every track being excellent. The mastering by Tetsuya Kotetsu is also superb, resulting in very good sound quality.

A1: a Wongga Dance Song
A3: a Rain Song
B2: a Carved Stone
