Released in 1986 by João Carlos Assis Brasil, a Brazilian pianist with a classical background and the twin brother of jazz saxophonist Victor Assis Brasil. This is a solo piano album featuring his own compositions alongside works by such Brazilian masters as Tom Jobim, Radamés Gnattali, and Wagner Tiso. On A5, Tiso himself joins the performance, presenting a beautiful piano duet. B2 opens with Jobim’s historic classic “Wave,” then unfolds into an improvisational medley of pieces co-written by Jobim with composers including Vinicius de Moraes and Chico Buarque. A highly pleasing album, where the graceful melodies of acoustic piano are gently infused with the unmistakable feeling of Brazilian music.
