The third album in Nippon Columbia's "Music of Contemporary Japan" series, released in 1969, features Minoru Miki's "Paraphrase on Ancient Dances" on the A-side. Composed and recorded in 1966 by a Japanese music ensemble commissioned by NHK, it features shakuhachi, koto and kagura instruments. B2/B3/B4 includes "Shakuhachi Trio" composed by Yasuji Kiyose. It is performed by three shakuhachi players, Katsuya Yokoyama, Kohachiro Miyata and Masayuki Koga. This is also a very pleasant performance, with no classical atmosphere, and a gentle melody, sometimes minimalist, sometimes melodious, in the ensemble.
