On “Brazilian Tapestry,” the gently swaying rhythm and Turrentine’s tenor intertwine softly, leaving behind a distinctive floating atmosphere, while Jorge Ben’s “Zazueira” has a wonderfully light sense of drive and Brazilian groove. On “Vera Cruz,” written by Milton Nascimento and Fernando Brant, Deodato’s refined touch overlaps with the playing of the Brazilian musicians, giving the entire album an urbane, slightly humid warmth. A superb piece that can be enjoyed across bossa nova vocals, Brazilian jazz, and the mellow textures of the CTI sound.
