Recorded in a Los Angeles studio in 1981, the album features bassist Miroslav Vitous, a key member of Weather Report during the 1970s, and drummer Roy Haynes, who had been actively exploring free jazz and other adventurous forms of music since the 1960s. Disc 1 is devoted to free improvisations performed by the trio and in duo settings, selected from an enormous amount of music recorded with virtually no prior discussion or preparation.
