Highlights include A1, built on “Kramat,” a traditional folk song Brand sang as a child at festivals in his hometown of Cape Town; A3, evoking trains carrying Black laborers; B1, expressing an ancient African spiritual essence; and B3, dedicated to John Coltrane. Moving away from the overt social messaging of earlier works, this album radiates a deeply personal, positive energy rooted in African soul and passion. Superb throughout.
