Performed in a trio with Cecil McBee on bass and Roy Brooks on drums, with Brand contributing not only piano but also saxophone as well. Highlights include the Arabic-tinged ethnic tune on A3, later revisited on the superb quartet album Africa Tears and Laughter issued by the same label in 1979, as well as B2 and B3, where Dollar’s deeply emotional piano, marked by a strikingly forceful attack, contrasts beautifully with McBee’s bass that slowly seeps into your very core. A deeply moving album filled with memorable moments throughout, further elevated by Brooks’ wonderfully open, expansive drumming.
