Recorded around the same period, and in the same studio, as his debut leader album Realization and Herbie Hancock’s Sextant, the album features many of the same musicians, including Bennie Maupin, Herbie Hancock, Buster Williams, Billy Hart, and Patrick Gleeson, suggesting that the sessions were likely part of the same creative flow. Musically, it is also strongly marked by the influence of Miles Davis, with Henderson’s trumpet feeling almost like an expanded apparition of Miles himself.
