In addition to their principal instruments—vibraphone, marimba, and bass—Burton also plays organ, while Swallow performs on piano. Highlights include the title track A2, where the bass spins light melodies in its upper register against the pleasing harmonies of the organ, and B1, an emotionally rich interpretation of a Carla Bley composition. The album presents sophisticated contemporary jazz throughout, already pointing toward the direction ECM would pursue in the years that followed. Original German pressing with no label code.
