The session features a superb lineup centered around Abdul Wadud on cello, Rick Rozie on bass, and Pheeroan akLaff on drums, with Steve Turre on trombone, Robin Eubanks on trombone, Jay Hoggard on vibraphone, and Geri Allen on piano. While inheriting the language of blues and bop, Newton’s free-flowing emotional expression and vivid sense of musical imagery are truly outstanding throughout.
