Recorded at Songgwangsa, the album features Kim Young Dong on the daegeum and sogeum, large and small transverse bamboo flutes, while the monks perform on traditional Buddhist instruments including the beopgo drum, temple bell, moktak wooden percussion, and unpan gong. As befits music recorded in a Zen temple, the entire album is filled with an exceptionally sacred and tranquil atmosphere, while the resonant, minimal rhythms of the percussion gradually lead the consciousness toward meditation. Kim Young Dong’s collaborations with bamboo flute and synthesizer are also superb, making this an outstanding work in purely musical terms as well.
