The album can be regarded as a continuation of the musical direction explored on Mantler’s 1978 album Movies and 1980’s More Movies. The suspenseful string orchestra, minimally repeating bass lines, and Mike Stern’s roaring electric guitar are particularly striking, creating the sensation of listening to the soundtrack of a hard-boiled crime film or suspense movie set in 1970s New York.
