The quartet features an impeccable lineup of musicians closely associated with ECM: John Surman on soprano and baritone saxophones and bass clarinet, Eddie Gomez on bass, and Jack DeJohnette on drums. Highlights include B1, where Goodrick’s meltingly fluid, richly textured electric guitar and Surman’s lustrous soprano saxophone soar over an open and expansive rhythm section, and B3, whose majestic musical landscape evokes a vast open grassland. Its deeply organic character—ECM at its very best—draws the listener irresistibly into the music. A masterpiece.
