The lineup on this one is exceptional, featuring John Purcell on soprano sax, John Scofield on guitar, Jack DeJohnette on drums, and Ray Anderson on trombone. Standout cuts include A1, propelled by Purcell’s fierce, primitive saxophone attack; the title track A2, with its Afro-spiritual atmosphere recalling the Art Ensemble of Chicago; and B1, where Warren’s fluid, beautifully flowing bass lines bring Eberhard Weber to mind.
