This album features the works by Toru Takemitsu, one of Japan's greatest composers, and Maki Ishii, an up-and-coming composer in the contemporary music world at the time, performed by the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Seiji Ozawa, now a world-renowned conductor. In "Cassiopeia" by Toru Takemitsu on side A, the primitive percussion performance by Tsutomu Yamashita and the orchestra progress in a slow and rapid manner, scattering sounds like a spring. Encounter II" by Maki Ishii is a score for gagaku (ancient Japanese court music) and orchestra, and it is a wonderful score that sublimates Japanese classical music to a new level, as if following the world opened up by Toru Takemitsu. The performance is also excellent.
