Undoubtedly one of ECM’s most iconic pianists alongside Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea released this album in 1985. Commissioned by the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the piece was composed for the New World Festivalheld in Miami in 1982. This ambitious chamber music work features a septet ensemble comprising Ida Kavafian (violin), Theodore Arm (violin), Steven Tenenbom (viola), Fred Sherry (cello), Steve Kajala (flute), and Peter Gordon (French horn), presenting a modern classical approach that showcases Corea’s exploratory spirit. Produced by Corea himself with the support of Manfred Eicher, the album was released on ECM and, according to Corea, reflects their collaborative vision. An ideal entry point for discovering chamber music through the ECM lens, this recording comes highly recommended. It was also released as a high-quality pressing by Polydor as part of ECM’s 15th anniversary special series.
