Released in 1975 by American contemporary composer George Crumb, who devoted many years to music education as a university professor. Known for his development of extended techniques and exploration of timbre, Crumb presents the third installment in his Makrokosmos series, a work that expresses the cosmos—the macrocosm—through amplified two pianos and percussion. The performers include Gilbert Kalish (piano), James Freeman (piano), Raymond DesRoches (percussion), and Richard Fitz (percussion). This grand suite, lasting around 40 minutes, consists of five movements. The acoustic pianos and percussion resonate three-dimensionally across a vast sound field, creating a sense of weightlessness. In particular, the overtones in the high register of the percussion are beautifully extended and pleasing to the ear. Comes with a Japanese insert for domestic distribution.

A1: Nocturnal Sounds (The Awakening)
