An album released in 1974 by American pianist Keith Jarrett, who gained fame in his twenties for producing historical masterpieces such as Solo Concert and The Köln Concert. This was his first fully scored work, featuring string orchestras and string quartets, including the Südfunk Symphony Orchestra, The American Brass Quintet, and The Fritz Sonnleitner Quartet. It is an epic production created in collaboration with Manfred Eicher, a label owner and producer with a classical background. This album marked a turning point in Jarrett’s development as a composer, leading to the release of Luminessence in 1975, and The Celestial Hawk in 1980. Ralph Towner contributes guitar on D1, while on D3, Jarrett plays gongs and percussion.
