This is an album released in 1976 by LaSalle-Quartet, which was formed in 1947 by German-born American violinist Walter Levin and was active for the next 40 years. It consists of Walter Levin (1. Violine), Henry Meyer (2. Violine), Peter Kamnitzer (Viola), Jack Kirstein (Cello). It featured John Cage's 1950 four-part string quartet suite and the Polish Composer/conductor Witold Lutoslawski's 1965 String Quartet Suite. John Cage's score is said to be the last work that Cage left as incomplete, as he pursued the ideas of Indian philosophy like his Sonatas and Interludes for Prepared Piano as well as in The Four Seasons for Ballet. The gentle changes in pitch and intensity are like yoga breathing exercises. Witold Lutoslawski's score also has some minimalist moments and develops very interestingly.
