Released in 1982, this album features the classically trained American flutist Ransom Wilson performing works by minimalists such as Steve Reich, Philip Glass and Frank Becker. Steve Reich's 'Vermont Counterpoint' was commissioned for Ransom Wilson, and it is similar taste as 'Music for 18 Musicians' and 'Octet'. Philip Glass's A2 is a minimal ensemble with a string multiplet and a sombre flute melody overlaid by a duet. The highlight is B2, "Stonehenge" by Frank Becker, a contemporary musician and synthesist who often works with Japanese musicians. An ensemble for flute, percussion and synthesizer, it's a wonderfully dramatic blend of minimalism and the exuberance of synthesized music, and one for the new age/ambient ear.
