An album released in 1974 by Opus One, a label founded in 1966 by composer Max Schubel, which has produced numerous masterpieces. This recording features compositions by Robert Stern and Lewis Spratlan, both emerging composers at the time, as well as Francis Thorne, who had been active since the 1950s. Conducted by Robert Gutter, the Springfield Symphony Orchestra of Missouri performs these works.
A1, composed by Spratlan, consists of a prelude and a rondo based on five notes. B1, by Stern, is a realization for orchestra and magnetic tape. B2, composed by Thorne, was commissioned by the same orchestra and is structured in three parts. A recommended one, even for those new to orchestral music.
B1: Robert Stern “Carom for Orchestra and Magnetic Tape”
B2: Francis Thorne “Fanfare, Fugue and Funk”
