Painted Lady

Released in 1980, this album features Abbey Lincoln, an American singer who has been active at the forefront since the 1950s and has performed with many talented musicians, including her ex-husband Max Roach, Ceder Walton, and Buddy Collette. Backed by a quintet featuring Archie Shepp, Freddie Waits, Roy Burrowes, Hilton Ruiz, and Jack Gregg, Lincoln sings lyrical songs from standard numbers to soul and pop tunes with an adult atmosphere. This is a superb album. The A2, a moody cover of Stevie Wonder's classic "Golden Lady," and the B2, a cover of Michel Legrand's famous score "What are you doing the rest of your life," which has been covered by many artists including Barbra Streisand, are among the highlights of the album. B2, which sings "What are you doing the rest of your life," a famous score by Michel Legrand covered by many artists including Barbra Streisand, is especially moving. Highly recommended.
