This album was released in 1989 by Abdel Aziz El Mubarak, one of the best known and respected singers in Sudan, a country located in the Islamic North East Africa. The album was recorded live at a concert held at the Hackney Empire in London in 1989, backed by some of the country's top musicians, including saxophonist No Hamid O. Abdalla, bassist Nassir G. Karim, and violinist Mohmdiya. Modern Sudanese music is also popular in Ethiopia, Nigeria, Cameroon, Kenya, etc. Listening to the melody of the pentatonic scale, which is similar to Japanese folk songs, Ondo and Enka, I was reminded of an anecdote that Heile Selassie, the last emperor of Ethiopia, heard Enka when he visited Japan, brought it back to his country, and had local musicians model it after him. B1 and B2 have a lot in common with the funk-influenced Afro-beat of Nigeria.
