This album was released in 1965 by Albert Ayler, an American saxophonist who made his name as the spearhead of avant-garde jazz in New York City in the 1960s. The album features his brother Donald Ayler (tp), Charles Tyler (sax), Henry Grimes (b), Gary Peacock (b), Sunny Murray (perc), and Call Cobbs (harpsichord), all of whom were active in innovative music in New York at the time. The album was recorded live at Judson Hall, featuring musicians who were active in the innovative music scene in New York at the time. The theme that pays homage to early jazz alternates with free improvisation, and the multiple leads interplay primitively. The listener is swept up in the intense vibrato exchanges.
