An album released in 1989 by Amayenge, one of Zambia’s most representative groups. Centered around Chris Chali, the group began its activities in the 1970s as New Crossbones, and continued even after Chali’s passing, later winning a Ngoma Music Award in 2005. Their music is in the style known as kalindula, which developed from dances known as kontolola and pimpinika from the 1940s through the 1960s, blending elements of 20th-century popular music with traditional Zambian styles. While it shares certain affinities with Lingala pop and soukous developed in Congo, its sound is even more primitive and danceable, making this a truly superb record.
