Album released in 1974 by Anthony Braxton, an American reed player/pianist from Chicago's AACM and a leading figure in the free jazz/avant-garde scene. The A-side is a trio formation with Leo Smith and Richard Teitelbaum, while the B-side is a duo with Dave Holland. Braxton's music is extremely good at balancing a rigorously constructed score with improvisation, a characteristic that is also evident in this work. The big draw is the trio on the A-side, where the Moog Synthesizer played by Teitelbaum is ultra-stimulating, with Braxton and Smith's leads interspersing improvisations with fat, tricky electronic sounds. It is an electrified free jazz work in common with Don Cherry and John Appleton's 1970 Human Music and George Lewis' Black Sait series. Highly recommended.
