Barney Wilen was discovered by Miles Davis when Davis visited Paris to record the soundtrack for Louis Malle's 1957 film "Ascenseur pour l'echafaud", and later played with Thelonious Monk and Art Blakey, among others. This album is dedicated to Lorenzo Bandini, an Italian racer who was killed in an accident during the Monaco Blancpain race in 1967. Together with Francois Tusques (p,og), Beb Guerin (b), and Eddy Gaumont (ds), Wilen spins an imaginative tale of the tragedy that occurred during the race with sound recordings from the actual race, which is almost as if you are watching a movie, It is a work of very high quality as conceptual music. It can also be rated as spiritual jazz. Highly recommended. This is Japanese reissue released in 1981.
