English female folk singer Claire Hamill, who launched her career in the early 1970s and has remained active ever since, with credits including work alongside Cat Stevens and Carly Simon, released this album on the ambient/new age label Coda in 1986. A self-performed work entirely composed and produced by Hamill herself, the album presents a remarkably beautiful celestial soundscape throughout. Highlights include A1, a sacred-feeling human voice ensemble built from layers upon layers of her crystal-clear vocals, and A3, whose clean programmed rhythms and digital synthesizer textures bring to mind Art of Noise’s “Moments in Love.” Sonically, it also shares an adventurous experimental spirit with peak-period Eurythmics and Laurie Anderson. A truly superb work.
