An album released in 1969 by the New Art Ensemble led by American trumpeter Clifford Thornton, who began his career in the 1950s with Ray Draper's group and later collaborated with avant-garde jazz pioneers such as Sun Ra, Pharoah Sanders, Marzette Watts, Dave Burrell, and Sunny Murray in the 1960s. The quintet includes Sonny King on alto saxophone, Karl Berger on vibraphone, Don Moore on bass, and Harold Avent on drums. The album features tracks like A2, which gradually transitions from a swinging 4/4 beat into deconstruction when Berger's vibes come in. It opens with a floating theme and offers a reprised structure similar to A2 in B2, creating a dynamic and captivating progression.
