This is the first album under the name Old and New Dreams by four free/experimental jazz greats Don Cherry, Dewey Redman, Charlie Haden and Eddie Blackwell, all of whom were members of the Ornette Coleman group. A tribute to Ornette Coleman and an expression of the present for all four members, it is exactly as the title suggests, featuring a Coleman cover of A1, as well as original compositions by Cherry, Haden and Redman. A3 by Haden is spiritual ethnic jazz in the vein of Don Cherry's superb 'Organic Music Society' and 'Brown Rice' albums. The second half of the track is topped off by a faint female ethnic vocal heard in the distance. The title track B3 by Redman is psychedelic avant-jazz in the spirit of Ornette's free jazz and ethnic-oriented music, sublimated and heading in a more spiritual direction.
