A leader album released on Blue Note in 1966 by Donald Byrd, who pursued a new sound, starting with hard bop, then mode and soul-jazz. The quintet consisted of Wayne Shorter (ts), Herbie Hancock (p), Butch Warren (b) and Billy Higgins (dr). The music is full of excellent tunes that groove lightly, but the best track is the title track, B2. The background of the era was already exploring avant-jazz, and it is clear that Byrd was aiming in a new direction as well. Hancock's piano is also excellent. The number of takes is listed on the recordings, and it seems that a considerable number of recordings were made. Reissued in the US in 1985, with high-quality sound cutting by DMM.
