This 1986 release by the brilliant Brazilian composer/guitarist/pianist Egberto Gismonti is, needless to say, a gem. It’s a superb album where fans can enjoy some of Gismonti’s most beloved compositions performed as expressive solo acoustic piano pieces. Aside from faint touches of natural sounds—like birdsong—and subtle synth pads forming a delicate outline, the record is essentially a piano-solo album. Yet the music radiates the same profound spirituality and love of nature that define his other works, which is precisely what makes Gismonti so extraordinary. Even with just piano, the scale feels as grand as a full orchestral work, with a sound as if bathed in sunlight and carried by gentle breezes. Truly moving—highly recommended. Includes a gatefold insert and an LP-sized poster.
