Enrico Marcandalli
Temporale nel Parco
Madau Dischi (Italy) 1983
D 011 (LP)
sleeve : NM(IN SHRINK)
media : EX+/EX+(some slightly noise.)

A truly rare piece has just come in. This is the first and only analog release by the little-known Italian guitarist Enrico Marcandalli, who left behind just a handful of works in the early 1980s. Issued in 1983 on the obscure label Madau Dischi, run by Franco Madau, this album stands as his debut and sole vinyl statement. Marcandalli plays two six-string guitars crafted by the renowned luthier Carlo Raspagni, performing in a fingerpicking style deeply influenced by John Fahey and Robbie Basho—the founder of Takoma Records and key figures in establishing “American Primitivism.” The result is a secluded, almost otherworldly masterpiece of ambient acoustic music: folky at its core, yet imbued throughout with the gentle, refreshing feel of a soft sea breeze. One can sense roots in the traditional music of Sardinia and Sicily, adding a subtle ethnic depth to the sound. Track B1, featuring tabla by Sergio Pavanati, is particularly beautiful. Highly recommended.

A1: Temporale nel Parco
