This is the 1973 album by Esther Phillips, an American singer who gained attention when she took the stage at a club run by Johnny Otis in 1949 during her amateur days and made her debut the following year. She went on to have a long and successful career in the forefront of the music scene. While Phillips excelled in various genres of Black music such as jazz, soul, R&B, and disco, this album focuses on the blues. Backed by a skilled ensemble of musicians including Ron Carter (bass), Pepper Adams (baritone sax), Charlie Brown (guitar), Tim Hinkley (piano), Pee Wee Ellis (alto sax), she delivers a superb vocal performance with allure and richness, making it a classic record.
