Trombonist Graham Moncur III was at the forefront of the cutting-edge American scene in the 1960s, from the bop of Benie Golson, Herbie Hancock and Jackie McLean to the free jazz of Marion Brown and Archie Shepp. He released this album in 1975. It was with The Jazz Composer's Orchestra, formed by Carla Bley and Michael Mantler. In addition to up-and-coming musicians such as Carlos Ward, Leroy Jenkins, Hannibal, Cecil McBee, Charlie Haden, Beaver Harris, percussion group Tawana Dance Ensemble and singers Jeanne Lee and Mervine Grady, and a magnificent suite of energetic, spiritual ethno avant-jazz, with many elements of African music. It should say this work is twinned with Don Cherry's classic Relativity Suite, released in 1973 from the same series. Highly recommended.
