A very rare item has just arrived. This 1988 album is by Guaco, a Venezuelan tropical band formed in Maracaibo in 1970 by members of the traditional group Los Guacos Del Zulia, which enjoyed local popularity in the 1960s. Over the course of more than 50 years, Guaco has remained active while undergoing numerous lineup changes. Originally rooted in gaita, a form of traditional Venezuelan music, the group developed a unique style by blending it with elements of Latin music. On this album, they boldly incorporate electronic elements such as digital synthesizers, delivering a colorful and bright Latin dance sound with production that recalls mid-1980s Egberto Gismonti. Highly recommended are B2, B3, and B4—tropical tracks with a breezy, Balearic feel. A1 is also a great Latina-infused number.
