This was introduced in OBSCURE SOUND REVISED EDITION. This is the reissue of the first album by Interior, a group consisting of Mitsuru Sawamura, Daisuke Hinata, Eiki Nonaka, and Tsukasa Betto. Originally released in 1982 on Yen Medium, a sub-label of Yen Records led by Haruomi Hosono, this album is a masterpiece of cutting-edge modern music, characterized by a unique blend of electronics and acoustics, creating a cool and avant-garde atmosphere throughout. Discovered by William Ackerman, founder of the American new age label Windham Hill Records, the album was re-edited for a 1985 release of the same name. However, the most solid and hard-ambience new wave electro tracks, A4/B3, were excluded from that edition, making this original version exceptionally sharp and deep—a highly recommended piece.

For this reissue, Chee Shimizu wrote the liner notes. The sound quality has been updated to be both modern and warm while retaining the original ambiance, ensuring that even those who own the original release will find something to enjoy.

< Comments on the Reissue >

This group, with its orderly and refined yet somewhat mysterious name reminiscent of Erik Satie's "Furniture Music," is once again receiving attention for the works it left behind in the 1980s. This renewed spotlight is highly significant, even apart from the recent global resurgence of ambient and new-age music. It presents a perfect opportunity to fully experience the music of this group, a true anomaly in the Japanese music scene of the 1980s.

Interior's releases fused technology and sophistication in a manner that is still relevant today - music that glides gracefully into a still-forthcoming future. By transcending the typical dynamics of the jazz or rock ensemble, they arrived at a vaporous sound that comfortably dissipated into the contours of home listening.
