This is a 1979 album by American pianist Jimmy Rowles, who played with Lester Young’s group in the early 1940s and collaborated extensively with Benny Goodman, Woody Herman, and Les Brown. The album features a trio with George Mraz (b) and Leroy Williams (ds), but the bass and drums remain very subdued, focusing entirely on enhancing Rowles’ piano. True to his dedication to swing and cool jazz, Rowles delivers an elegant performance without any flashy elements.
