John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman “S.T.”

John Coltrane, the undisputed jazz giant who made the leap from Sheets of Sound to Spiritual Free, was joined by vocalist Johhny Hartman on this album released in 1963. The quartet, which includes McCoy Tyner (p), Elvin Jones (ds), Jimmy Garrison (b), and other musicians who are essential to Coltrane's music, gives a quiet and elegant performance throughout, complementing Hartman's beautiful, vibrate valitone voice. The sound quality of this reissue, originally released on JVC in 1980, is very good, allowing the listener to savor the performance in great detail.
