This album was introduced in the first edition of the guidebook Obscure Sound. Released in 1986, it’s a solo work by the extraordinary guitarist Jose Neto, who hails from São Paulo, Brazil, and was a member of the group Fourth World, formed around Airto Moreira and Flora Purim. Both Airto and Purim also appear on this album. Centered around emotionally rich solo performances on nylon-string guitar, the album also features primitive-sounding tracks with Airto’s berimbau and percussion, as well as deeply mellow scat vocals by Purim. With its dynamic and expressive guitar work, this album represents a meditative approach to Brazilian acoustic music, reminiscent of Egberto Gismonti. Highly, highly recommended.
