An album released in 1988 by Kante Manfila, a griot from Kankan, Guinea, descended from the Mandinka people of West Africa, and known for his work as a member of the Rail Band, the legendary group that also included Salif Keita and Mory Kante. Featuring Mory Kante, Djanka Diabate, Oumou Diabate, Ibrahima Diawara and Kaba Nakte, the album unfolds a deeply organic and endlessly pleasurable sound world. Warm, earthy rhythms from the balafon, the delicate and expansive tones of the kora, bright and supple acoustic guitar melodies, and beautifully powerful mixed male/female chants all come together to envelop the listener in a natural, flowing atmosphere. A wonderfully refreshing and uplifting piece of West African music from start to finish.
