Two guitarists, Kevin McCormick and David Horridge, first met in Manchester in the late 1970s, and went on to release this quietly remarkable album in 1982. Emerging from a Manchester scene then largely defined by the rise of post-punk and power-pop acts such as Joy Division, The Fall and Buzzcocks, the music here feels wonderfully out of step with its surroundings. Recorded with simple, modest equipment, it has a beautifully abstract atmosphere, drawing the listener into an unusually delicate blend of ambient, jazz and folk sensibilities — a rare and deeply captivating sound for its time.
