Les Percussions de Strasbourg is a group formed in 1962 in Strasbourg, a city on the Rhine River in northeastern France, which has been active for 60 years and has released a number of classic albums with striking silver-printed jackets and black typography. The album was released in 1970, and features Edgar Varese's "Ionisation" (A1), Carlos Chavez's "Toccata" (A2) and "Tambuco" (B1), and John Cage's "First Construction" (B2). In A1, a siren-like sound is played by a kind of electronic oscillator that produces low and high notes, while in B2, composed when Cage was 25 years old, various metal percussion instruments and steel plates are used to create a minimalist 16-bar rhythmic structure.

A1: Edgar Varese “Ionisation”
B2: John Cage “First Construction”
