An album released in 1980 by M’Boom, the jazz percussion ensemble founded in 1970 under the direction of Max Roach. Featuring a nine-piece lineup of percussionists including Roy Brooks, Joe Chambers, and Ray Mantilla, the group performs throughout without a drum set, using a wide range of percussion instruments to create richly primitive music steeped in Afro and Latin feeling. Delicate percussive sounds imitating the calls of animals and birds flutter through the soundscape alongside marimba, xylophone, and more, with such vivid realism that they seem almost alive. An exceptionally organic sound throughout, very much in line with the JAPO masterpiece Percussion Profiles featuring Jack DeJohnette and Pierre Favre. High-quality Japanese pressing in Master Sound edition.
A1: Onomatopeia
A3: Caravanserai
B2: Morning / Midday
