The 1973 debut album by New York-born singer Maria Muldaur, known for a style deeply rooted in American country traditions while freely incorporating blues, folk, Cajun, traditional music, and swing. The album features an impressive cast of musicians including Ry Cooder, Amos Garrett, Chris Ethridge, and, from the jazz world, Dave Holland and Ray Brown. Built primarily around folk and country, the arrangements are exceptionally refined, with tasteful touches of jazz woven throughout. A2 remains an enduring classic, with Muldaur’s distinctive voice and beautiful melody joined by the soothing tones of slide guitar and violin. A truly timeless song.
