Featured in the guidebook OBSCURE SOUND REVISED EDITION. A 1987 album by Hungarian traditional music singer Márta Sebestyén, whose remarkable series of electronic music collaborations with Szörényi Levente, including Jeles Napok and Szerelmeslemez, is also highly recommended. Using a wide range of traditional instruments, particularly those of Eastern Europe, including zither, bagpipes, and tambura, the album presents modern arrangements of Hungarian traditional music throughout. Every track is excellent, but A3 is the absolute standout. Over pastoral melodies played on zither and flute, and a chorus producing overtone-rich harmonies reminiscent of throat singing, Márta’s fresh, crystalline voice resonates with an almost celestial beauty. Music that sinks deeply into both body and soul.
