Mike Nock
Strata
Kiwi/Pacific Records Ltd (New Zealand) 1984
SLC-179 (LP)
sleeve : VG+(SRW,SPSE:7cm split on bottom seam, some scuffs on side/corners)
media : EX/EX(some light surface noise)
An excellent record has arrived. This is a lesser-known masterpiece released in 1984 by New Zealand jazz pianist Mike Nock, whose delicate and beautiful performances are outstanding, including his acclaimed ECM release "Ondas," which was also featured in the guidebook "OBSCURE SOUND REVISED EDITION." This album was released on his home country's label, Kiwi/Pacific Records Ltd. While two tracks feature a duo with percussionist Roger Sellers, the rest of the album consists of solo piano pieces. However, it's not just acoustic piano; there are also tracks using Fender Rhodes and SC Prophet 5 synthesizers, which are absolutely superb. This is New Age jazz with a fragile yet beautiful worldview that evokes the stunning nature of New Zealand.
