This is the first album released in 1987 by Najma, a British singer of Indian descent who gained prominence in the global world music movement from the 1980s onwards, releasing six albums between 1987 and 2002. Najma's first album. It is in the Indian and Pakistani semi-classical ghazal style, which is said to have originated in Persia, but it is in the indie-pop style that flourished in the late 1980s, as exemplified by Monsoon's Sheila Chandra. Najma's crystal-clear voice is a perfect match for the wet-sounding tabla and synths of her world music. The album has an ambient/new age feel to it and is well recorded with a crystal clear sound quality typical of the 80s. All tracks are highly recommended.
