Nara Leao
Meu Samba Encabulado
Philips (Japan) 1983
28-PP99 (LP)w/insert.
sleeve : EX(some light wear on edge and corner.)
media : EX+/EX+(some slightly noise.)
An album released in 1983 by Nara Leão, one of the most iconic singers of Brazil’s MPB scene and a key figure deeply involved in the early history of bossa nova. Arranged by the choro group Camerata Carioca, this work was created around the theme of samba and features guitarist Torcuato Mariano—who would go on to be active from the 1980s onward—and clarinet/saxophone player Paulo Moura. Though centered on samba, it’s not the energetic style one might imagine; instead, Leão’s signature whisper-like vocals float gently and soothingly like a soft breeze, making this a refined and elegant album. Highlights include track A4, where Leão sings while accompanying herself on guitar, and A5, a moody bossa number beautifully enhanced by Camerata Carioca’s performance.
A4: De Mal Pra Pior
A5: Ha Musica No Ar
B7: Quando a Saudade Apertar
