This album was released in 1965 by the sextet led by Nathan Davis, an American lead player who has played with Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers and Eric Dolphy Septet, and is active as a composer, arranger, and scholar, having published a book analyzing the history and development of jazz music. Recorded in France in 1965, this album features Woody Shaw (tp), Jean-Louis Chautemps (bs), Rene Urtreger (p), Jimmy Woode (b), and Kenny Clarke (ds). Four of the six tracks on this album have original scores by Davis, and the performances are superb, including the title track A2, which runs along with a pleasant sense of speed, and A3, a boogie jazz tune filled with a colorful atmosphere. Thelonius Monk's classic "Rudy My Dear" is also a masterpiece. This is a reissued Spanish version of an unknown release date (probably 2000s), but the sound quality is very good and crisp. There is a small chip on side of the disc, but it does not affect playback at all.
